The Traveling Sketchbook Series

Berlin

Berlin doesn’t dress up for anyone. It shows up as it is — wild, bold, full of stories. You’re going to sketch all of it.

From now on, Berlin belongs to your sketchbook. You’ll be drawing it, soaking it up, letting it stir something untamed in you.

No flight required. No train ticket.
Your sketchbook is your golden ticket. Your backstage pass to the city’s raw creative buzz.

You’ll get a mix of soulful prompts, video lessons, and unexpected twists that pull you right into Berlin’s pulsing heart.
We’ll wander through paint-streaked alleyways, faded glamour, underground moments, and sudden beauty. You’ll sketch your way through it — messy, bold, and fully alive.

You’ll gather little bits of Berlin—its honesty, its rebellion, its magic—to keep long after the course wraps.

★★★★★

“As my 11-year-old son put it:
Mom, Marenthe is kind of like Marvel (you know, Spider-Man and all that) — you just don’t want to miss it when something new drops.”

Merel

Berlin’s not asking twice. Say yes. Loud.

For 3 weeks, you’ll breathe in Berlin’s energy, and edge like a wide-awake creative junkie on a joyride. This city doesn’t seduce — it dares you. And once you say yes, it doesn’t let go.

It’s like stepping into a black-and-white photo that suddenly bursts into color. You wake up, grab your sketchbook, and step into a world that’s raw, electric, and full of stories spray-painted on every wall. You’ll slow down just enough to feel the rhythm underneath the noise — the quiet poetry between the cracks, in underground studios, smoky cafés, and places where Berlin presses its wild heart right up against yours.

It’s museums, murals, rebellion, and unfiltered creativity.
It’s saying yes to your art — not for perfection, not for likes, but because making something is your way of feeling alive.

5 Wildly Good Reasons to Say Yes to Berlin

  • Your Personal Berlin Co-Conspirator

Marenthe’s not your guide. She’s your creative partner in crime. She’ll drop sketch prompts so juicy, you’ll want to tattoo them on your forearm. (Or at least scribble them in the margins while sipping Club-Mate.)

  • From Castle Walls to Museums (and a Secret Detour)

Yes, there are museums. Yes, there are castles. And yes, we’re stepping outside the city… but no spoilers. Just know this: every stop is sketch-worthy, slightly magical, and totally unexpected.

  • Berlin’s Not Here to Be Pretty. It’s Here to Be Real.

Which is why it looks so damn good on paper. You’ll paint, collage, letter, and loosen up—until your sketchbook starts to breathe. This is creative freedom in concrete form. Raw, bold, full of soul.

  • Your New Favorite People Are Waiting Inside the Group

Artists from all over the world. Zero ego. Maximum heart. You’ll swap ideas, celebrate each other’s messes, and maybe even start planning that Berlin-meets-Bali art retreat you didn’t know you needed.

  • This Isn’t a Trip. It’s a Beautiful Disruption.

Berlin leaves a mark. Not the glossy kind—but the kind that shifts something inside you. The kind that keeps whispering draw me again when you’re back home, coffee in hand, heart wide open.

What’s inside? Pure creative freedom. And possibly some currywurst at midnight.

✨ You’ll get nine juicy, creativity-fueled video lessons—three per week—like little Berlin postcards that explode into paint, collage, and total art joy.

✂️ And on the other days? Surprise treats. Downloads. Creative curveballs. You never know what’s coming—but it’ll land right where your muse lives.

That means three full weeks of Berlin magic, straight to your sketchbook.

🎨 A list of must-have supplies. Nothing fancy—just what you need to dive in, get messy, and make something that feels like yours.

💬 Access to our buzzing international Facebook community. 24/7 connection with fellow artists who speak fluent inspiration.

📩 Daily emails. Little love notes from Berlin. A nudge, a prompt, a moment to breathe and make.

📅 Unlimited lifetime access. Because great art doesn’t rush—and some things are worth returning to again and again. Preferably with ink-stained fingers and a strong coffee.

🇬🇧 This course is in English and Dutch.

About the videos

Think of them as your all-access pass into Marenthe’s Berlin hotel room.
Seriously. Most of the videos were filmed right there—sketchbook on her lap, ink on her hands, city sounds in the background. It’s raw, real, and refreshingly unpolished.

You’ll see her drawing, painting, collaging, hand-lettering—just doing the thing. No script, no perfect lighting. Just honest-to-goodness art in motion.

📺 All videos are pre-recorded. Watch whenever it suits you—2AM, headphones on, neon flickering outside, sketchbook open.
No rules. No polish. Just pure creative presence.

What you’ll get (and then some!)👇

  • The Museum of Everyday Wonder (and Weirdness)

Berlin’s Museum der Dinge. Full of plates, patterns, packaging and stories in plastic. You’ll never look at a toaster the same way again.

  • A Grand Old Lady With Secrets in Her Walls

This magnificent Baroque-style palace showcases the grandeur and opulence of the Prussian monarchy. Baroque meets broken-in. Chandeliers, creaky doors, faded glory. And yep—we’re drawing it.

  • The Most Honest Breakfast You’ve Ever Seen

Inspired by an American photographer in Berlin. We sketch like we’re hungover on hotel carpet, staring at toast like it’s modern art. Spoiler: it is.

  • Roadhouse Icons & Highways to Nowhere

Somewhere between Berlin and somewhere else, we pull off the road to paint the ordinary. Think gas stations. Dusty signs. Beauty in the in-between.

  • A Flea Market Full of Stories (and Possibly Old Buttons)

We’re going digging. For stories, textures, and maybe a little 1970s wallpaper. It’s Berlin—treasure lives in the dust.

  • A Dancehall That Refuses to Retire

Part ballroom, part fairytale, part fever dream. You’ll want to draw every chair—and maybe invent your own Berlin dance step.

  • A Museum That Tastes Like Ancient Mythology

Enter the Pergamon. Grand. Dramatic. Ruinous in the best way. You’ll draw shadows, columns, broken gods, and the weight of time.

  • A Place That’s Technically Not Berlin (But Totally Is)

We’re taking a tiny detour outside the city… but I’m not telling you where yet. Trust me: it’s royal, slightly surreal, and your sketchbook will thank you.

  • A Rebel With a Sharpie (and a Message You’ll Feel in Your Bones)

This exhibition is quiet and fierce. Words as weapons. Silence as art. You’ll draw what can’t be said. And maybe cry a little.

  • Design Chairs That Don’t Behave

You’ll paint the unexpected. Chairs with personality. Attitude. Legs that won’t sit still.

This course is not for you if… 🚫

  • You think Berlin is just “that grey city with sausage.” (We can’t be friends.)

  • You’re not the curious type and prefer your comfort zone with the door locked and bolted.

  • You’re only here for step-by-step, technical how-to-draw-a-chair tutorials. (Wrong course. Wrong vibe.)

  • The word “online” makes you itchy and you hate anything that doesn’t come in hardcover.

  • You’ve never drawn a thing in your life and still think art is “only for real artists.” (This isn’t paint-by-numbers, babe.)

  • You don’t even have five minutes to sneak a peek inside. (Berlin moves fast, but this course doesn’t.)

  • You’ve hoarded 4,289 other courses and ghosted every single one. Don’t make this number 4,290. That’s just rude.

    Still here?
Good. You’re the curious, creative rebel this course was made for. Welcome to Berlin, wild one.

Q&A – The No-BS Edition

How long is the course, and is it live?

It’s not live—you do it at your own pace. But once you're in, you're in! That means when we run the course again, you get to join the live round—no extra cost, just extra fun.

I’m going on vacation. Can I join later?

Absolutely! You have lifetime access, so start whenever you want. Paris will wait.

I’ve been to Paris a million times. Will I still get something out of this?

Yes! Imagine recognizing places you’ve been and finally turning them into art. It’s like walking into a memory and sketching it into something unforgettable.

I’m a total perfectionist. And kinda scared. Is this for me?

Look, you have two choices: Stay small, wrapped in a cozy little fear blanket, or take the risk, have fun, mess up, learn, and GROW. One of those options sounds way more fun.

I’m not on Facebook. Can I still join?

Yes! Facebook is completely optional. The course itself? 100% FB-free and fully accessible.

Are the videos live?

Nope, they’re pre-recorded, so you can watch them whenever you want. Pajamas and a glass of Bordeaux? Totally acceptable.

Is this a brand-new course or a rerun?

This course first appeared inside The Art Beat Club as 60-Minute Art Beat Magic, but now? It’s bigger, better, and on a whole new platform. Oh, and it’s finally in Dutch too. 🎉

Meet your teacher, Marenthe

I’m an artist, just like you.

And here’s the thing: I never travel without my sketchbook. For over 35 years, it’s been my sidekick as I’ve wandered through cities, flea markets, stairwells, castles, alleys, and accidental adventures across the globe. Travel isn’t just something I do—it’s part of how I make sense of the world.

I’ve got a soft spot for Berlin.
I was 17 the first time I went. The Wall was still up. I stood there, in East Berlin, completely overwhelmed. It felt surreal.
Since then? I've been back maybe 15 times. I keep returning for the rawness, the weirdness, the depth. One day, I might just move there.

I’ve spent three decades making art, chasing inspiration, battling perfectionism, and procrastinating like an absolute pro. I’ve won awards, worked with dreamy clients, built a successful design studio, launched a Dutch stationery brand, and created The Art Beat Club—a home for wildly creative souls. All while navigating the rollercoaster of doubt, joy, burnout, and breakthroughs.

My work has even been featured in The Hundred Most Visionary Artists of the World by Phaidon Press.
I won the Global Talent Search hosted by Lilla Rogers in the US. And I’ve picked up awards in Paris, London, Tokyo, and New York.

Which is all amazing. Truly.

But honestly?
My biggest win is knowing that my art journal has carried me through all of it—the breakthroughs, the breakdowns, the what the hell am I doing moments. It’s been my lifeline, my playground, and my truth serum.

Now? I want to help you feel that same sense of creative freedom. Not because you have something to prove. But because making art is how we remember who we really are.

So grab your sketchbook.
Berlin is calling.

XO, Marenthe 🎨💋✨
