For fashion magpies, peacocks & glitter queens 〰️ Instant access 〰️

A badass art course for people who refuse to make boring shit.

What the Frock?!

Turn that neglected sketchbook into an art journal stuffed with iconic gowns, smocked sketches & art with shoulder pads.

Instant access.

F*** convertible zip-off pants and beige fleece vests. You want drama. Decadence. A catwalk of velvet, feathers, and fireworks.

How many times have you thought: “God, I’d love to draw one of those 1920s flapper dresses—fringe, beads, and a glass of cold champagne whispering stories?”

Or: “Why does my sketchbook feel like a pair of sad, saggy sweatpants, when I crave pages that reek of Chanel No5 and Paris in the spring rain?”

So you hide your sketchbook under a pile of tragic Christmas sweaters.
You scroll. You admire. You sigh. Because, honestly—where the hell did your inner glitterbomb go?

You don’t need another course that promises “creative confidence” and delivers a 16-page PDF and a mandarin-in-a-bowl exercise. You want perfume on your wrists. Brocade between the pages. A backstage pass to your most delicious, unhinged sketchbook fantasies.

Trust me, darling. You are not a practical, hospital-blue raincoat. You are a ballgown made of air and stardust, rustling like a fairy tale when you walk.

So rustle. Make pages that smell like violets, voile, and the midnight train to Venice.

What if your sketchbook wasn’t a dull-ass snoozeville, but a fashion house full of magic?

Imagine cracking that thing open and BAM. There it is: pages dripping in ruffles, lace, and velvet stardust. A glittery avalanche of embroidered gowns and petticoats that waltz under moonlight, brazen and unapologetic.

Not because you want a career in fashion. But because you’re done shrinking—and fashion doesn’t do small. And your imagination deserves a front-row seat and a glass of champagne.

Up until now, you probably thought: Fashion? Eh. Sounds like stick-thin models, and fluorescent lighting at Primark. Give me a hoodie and my trusty wool socks, please.

But what if fashion were something else? A secret treasure chest—filled with stories, shimmer, and spine-tingling history? What if your sketchbook became your runway? Where Dior and Cartier have cocktails. Where you paint heels with grace and guts—without feeding the dumpster fire that is fast fashion.

What if this Christmas you opened your sketchbook and whispered, “Holy chiffon, did I actually make this?”

What the Frock?! is a creative couture feast, and you’re front row, baby.

  • The Frayed Edge of Your Imagination

We open the doors to our imaginary wardrobe. No sensible little Gucci dresses hanging in here, thank you very much. Only clothes nobody has invented yet. Today, we go looking for your visual signature.

  • Lipstick, Nerve & Lines

A black line can whisper, shout or seduce. A dot can behave impeccably, or go completely off the rails. Today, we explore where your style starts to sing.

  • I Spy with My Fashion Eye

In the 1950s, women wore hats that allowed them to secretly spy on the world. Elsa Schiaparelli was a fashion queen par excellence and, thankfully, never afraid of a little mischief.

  • The Forbidden Check

Tartan once told everyone which clan you belonged to, and was eventually banned in an attempt to keep rebellious Highlanders under control. A few centuries later, that very same check is casually strutting down the catwalk.

  • Tartan on Stilettos

Five metres of cloth. A tiny knife tucked into your sock. A bag, because pockets hadn’t been invented yet. Then Vivienne Westwood comes along and makes it punk. We follow tartan from the Scottish Highlands to Gucci, Dior and Versace, and watch an ancient tradition climb onto the catwalk.

  • Lobsters, Monkey Fur & a Shoe on Your Head

What happens when you let a Roman aristocrat with zero fashion training loose in Paris and introduce her to Salvador Dalí? Beige skirt suits, it turns out, are not involved. Not even slightly.

  • Nails, Dots & a Sunday Skirt

Generations of women built a visual language from cork, paint and nails: dots whose colors told the world whether there was something to celebrate, or mourn. Welcome to the wonderfully expressive world of these fiercely original women.

  • Guess Who Drew These Pumps?

He became one of the most famous artists of the twentieth century. But before all the fame, famous friends and millions, he drew shoes for fashion magazines and advertisements. In gold leaf. Lots and lots of gold leaf.

  • The Dress That Talks Back

Two Dutch designers once launched a perfume that smelled of absolutely nothing. They cut holes into couture, made dresses from discarded fabrics and sent metres of tulle down the catwalk covered in words that would make your grandmother blush. Fashion with very little interest in behaving itself.

  • Who Dressed Mata Hari?

At eighteen, a young Russian aristocrat left for Paris. He dressed Mata Hari, conquered Harper’s Bazaar, and built entire paper worlds of feathers, pleats, jewels and Art Deco glamour. All with a pencil, scissors and a frankly unreasonable amount of talent.

  • A Treasure Chest in London

A sold-out exhibition. Royal clients. Sheikhs. Film stars. Aristocrats. And display cases dripping with jewels. Naturally, I had to wriggle my way inside and bring back a generous helping of sparkle, glow and glorious excess for you.

  • China with High Heels

A famous English pottery house had been making powder-blue vases, tableware and elaborate reliefs since the eighteenth century. Until someone had a brilliant idea. And suddenly, a centuries-old ceramic technique strutted straight onto the catwalk, and eventually into the pages of Vogue.

  • The Art of Leaving Things Out

He drew for Vogue Japan, Prada and major Dutch fashion houses, but his secret weapon was surprisingly simple: the art of leaving things out. One less line. Another shape gone. Here, we discover just how much you can say with very, very little.

  • Daisies, Miniskirts & Middle Fingers

She had little patience for proper dresses, traditions or ladies telling her what was and wasn’t done. So she made skirts shorter, tights brighter and fashion considerably less polite. The daisy became her trademark and the miniskirt the symbol of an entire generation. Today, we’re heading to swinging sixties London.

  • Dancing on Deck

It was an age of silk, champagne, inventions and an unshakable faith in the future. But underneath all that glamour, the ice was cracking. We step aboard the most famous ship in history and discover how clothes told stories of wealth, desire, freedom and a brand-new life on the other side.

  • From Street Sweeper to Royalty

At the end of the nineteenth century, a London street sweeper finds something that will change his life forever. He sews 60,000 buttons onto an old, worn-out suit and creates something nobody has ever seen before. More than a century later, his legacy suddenly turns up at one of the biggest fashion houses in the world.

✔ 3 gorgeous moodboards

✔ Drawing, painting & collage prompts made for getting gloriously messy in your art journal

Art, made by our students:

Why you’re in dangerously good hands (even if your sketchbook is currently buried under a pile of unpaid bills)

I’m Marenthe. Illustrator, visionary, fashion-obsessed since the age of three, and founder of The Art Beat Club.

Award-winning artist with 35+ years in the professional creative world—still showing up with paint under my nails (and okay… 30 pairs of shoes in my closet).

My work has sparkled on products by Hallmark, Heineken, Philips, Oilily, Phaidon Press, museums, and ministries. I worked for a renowned fashion designer in Brussels—dream job. The result? My illustrations were featured in Phaidon’s 100 Most Visionary Fashion Designers.

All that’s nice and shiny for LinkedIn. But let’s get real.
You’re not looking for someone who just talks about creativity. You want a pro who actually knows her stuff. Someone who knows what it’s like to spiral into self-doubt. Someone who’s also hidden her sketchbook under a pile of tax forms and half-dead dreams.

Because here’s the truth: creativity doesn’t like being put in a cage. Your sketchbook isn’t a dish rack. It’s a damn runway. You’re allowed to dream big, make bold, and draw messy — even if you have no clue what you’re doing yet.

What makes me different from every other glitter-covered art teacher?

I travel the world to visit extraordinary exhibitions, and I pour my knowledge, obsessions, and stories into courses that feel like a wild, wonderful trip through your subconscious.
You won’t find cookie-cutter tutorials like “how to draw a fashion figure.” You’ll find something much better: a method that turns your sketchbook into your own personal style-universe. One part rebellion, one part beauty, and a whole lotta YOU.

And yeah, I hear you thinking: “But fashion is kinda superficial, right?”
Not here. Not with me.
Fashion is a gateway drug to your creative soul. And I’ll teach you how to unlock it in your way.

You’re not a grey raincoat. You’re a ballroom gown in the making. Let’s roll that runway, darling.

My track record (in 4 glitter frames)

  • Phaidon Press USA named me one of the 100 Most Visionary Designers in the World, and I won the Global Talent Search in the US.
My work has been published across the globe and featured in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

  • I founded The Art Beat Club, developed 25+ courses that have inspired thousands of artists worldwide, and received 500+ glowing reviews (and counting).

  • I’ve won prestigious international awards (New York Art Directors Club, New York TDC, Tokyo TDC, Dutch Design Awards, European Design Awards, Global Talent Search).

  • Clients? Oh just a few: Elle Girl Korea, Flow, Heineken, Philips, PostNL, KLM, Happinez, Hallmark USA, Oilily, Running Press, Dutch celebs and even a few badass captains of industry.

And voilà: you’re a fashion queen

  • 1.

You get instant access to the online academy, where all your lessons and videos are waiting for you.

  • 2.

What’s inside? Think Marie Antoinette, fashion aboard the Titanic, Cartier, Mary Quant, underwater fashion, Gucci, theatre costumes, a little Scottish something, wildly fabulous hats, tableware at your feet, wonderfully ridiculous ballgowns, Piet’s fashion drawings, a frankly unreasonable number of handbags, Iris and Dior.

  • 3.

Let it marinate. Some assignments you’ll dive into immediately. Others you’ll want to stare at for a bit first. You set the pace.

  • 4.

The grand finale: a happy book stuffed with YOU.
Flip through it at the end of the year and think: holy frock, I MADE that. Collages, drawings, paintings… prepare to feel ridiculously pleased with yourself.

Jody Buck, USA

Your brain’s bullshit bingo:

Right about now, your mind might be serving you some hot garbage like:

"I mean, I know who Coco Chanel is, but that’s about it."

Perfect. That’s all you need.

We’re not here to deep-dive into obscure runway politics or the proper way to bias-cut silk. We’re here to draw, look, and PLAY.

This is not fashion school. This is your permission slip to mess around with color, shape, shadow, and sass.

“I’ve never drawn a dress. I’ve never been to a fashion exhibit. I don’t even own a sewing machine.”

Honey, this ain’t sewing class. No hemming required. Just a pencil.
Never drawn a dress before? GOOD.
This is your time. This course is a love letter to wonder.
No experience needed. And yes, failure’s welcome—as long as it’s fabulous.

“Do I need to know how to draw?”

Classic.
Short answer: no.
If you’ve got the guts to start, you’re already our hero.

We don’t worship talent here—we worship curiosity. So bring your open mind, and we’ll fill it with glitter.

“Dear Marenthe: Thank you so much for being such a wonderful inspiring funny teacher.
You are also a fabulous writer! Your letters are so sweet and heartwarming! Mille grazie! 🥰”
